The Center

The Center for New Media and the Arts is committed to promoting artists, visual and performing, emerging and established, by encouraging and hosting meaningful interconnectedness between local arts communities, educational organizations, and businesses.

Our visual art gallery exhibits work by quality local artists. In 2010, we incorporated arts education programming, beautiful open studio space,and professional artist workshops to meet the needs of artists of all ages.

In addition to the gallery and performance space, the CNMA offers exceptional professional video production services.

Who We Are

Brian Montague, Executive Producer

Brian graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree on Broadcast Communications. Since beginning Montage Video Productions in New Milford, CT in 2002, Brian has provided quality video filming, production, and editing to a wide variety of projects from corporate events to weddings. He merged Montage Video Productions into the Center for New Media and the Arts and now spearheads everything production at the Center.

Catherine Howard, Creative Director

Catherine graduated summa cum laude from Barnard College with a BA in Art History and a concentration in Visual Arts. She moved to Bethel in May 2009 and joined up with the Center for New Media and the Arts in June 2009. Her experiences as a curator, educator, and practicing artist fuel her passion for the visual arts and arts education. She eagerly anticipates working in collaboratin with the Center to promote the arts within the Bethel/Danbury community.

The History of the Opera House

Built in 1848 and located in the historical district of Bethel, CT, the Opera House is a grand and beautiful building.  Once a silent movie theater here, it was also a vaudeville stage, a roller skating rink, and the Bethel High School Gym.  The first floor has been a hat factory, a billiard hall that Mark Twain frequented, and a series of restaurants.

Our Space

The Center for New Media and the Arts is located on the second floor of the historic Opera House in downtown Bethel, CT. We have 14 nine-foot windows and over 2300 square feet.
